Three ASTC-member institutions are among the 15 museums named as finalists for the 2022 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Awarded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the National Medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities.
Since 1996, the award has honored 176 institutions—including 23 ASTC members—that demonstrated extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service.
Congratulations to the three ASTC members among the finalists:
¡Explora! Science Center & Children’s Museum
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Museum of Discovery and Science
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
The Wild Center
Tupper Lake, New York
National Medal winners will be announced the first week of June, and a national ceremony and celebration will be held in July.
Throughout April and May, IMLS will showcase the excellent community work of these institutions through its Share Your Story social media campaign. Anyone whose life has been touched by these museums or libraries is encouraged to share their memories and pictures and tag IMLS on Facebook and Twitter by using the hashtags #ShareYourStory and #IMLSmedals.
One of last year’s recipients was the Mississippi Children’s Museum, making a total of 23 ASTC-member institutions that have received the medal in its more than 25-year history.
