ONLY CONNECT: Bridging Science, Art and Spirituality: an interactive presentation and film preview

Tuesday, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Alan Lightman is an MIT astrophysicist and a best-selling novelist (Einstein’s Dreams) and science communicator. At ASTC he’ll preview (for the first time in public!) clips from SEARCHING: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science, a mini-series premiering on PBS stations in 2023. SEARCHING shows how both the humanities and science illuminate our place in the universe and dramatizes our connection to the stars and to all living creatures, on Earth and elsewhere. Along with Geoff Haines-Stiles (producer/director of Carl Sagan’s original COSMOS), Alan will share—via interactive polling—provocative insights into contemporary research and the public understanding of science.

Presenters:    Alan Lightman, Professor of the Practice of the Humanities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Geoffrey Haines-Stiles, Producer/Director/Co-writer, SEARCHING
